That’s what’s such an encouraging sign of the times like these—cultural icons coming out of their celebrity closets to speak bold truth to power. Great use of the bully pulpit that your fame provides you, Mr. Springsteen!

Springsteen has always been far more than a pop icon. His words and music have touched people deeply over the years. His political voice is relevant and, as always, he speaks with both truth and patriotism.

I’m not surprised “the Boss” understands that this entire episode was an insult to the intelligence of the American people.

Nobody I’ve heard (outside of the La La Land of Political Punditry) believed for a second that Senator Kerry’s comments were directed at our troops. Bruce is right: Americans are smarter than Rove gives us credit for being.

Tomorrow we get to show him exactly how smart!

Interesting things going on in parallel - deja vu
Both Ollie North and Jimmy Carter are in Nicaragua.
Ortega is doing well despite US intervention.
Tres interesante.

What a great guy. Bruce Springsteen sent me an e-mail directly relaying the same message.

I often think of the following lyrics when I get discouraged and angry.

“Badlands, you gotta live it evey day, let the broken hearts stand, As the price you’ve gotta pay, We’ll keeping pushing till it’s understood and these badlands start treating us good.”

This is just wonderful to see this support and understanding from “The Boss”.

I would just like to say to Senator Kerry this night before I hit the hay early to get to my polling place by 5 a.m., thank you. Thank you for inspiring me not only in’03 when I first learned about you, but thank you for giving me hope and thank you for inspiring me and never ever letting me down.

NO SURRENDER !!!

This is not the first time the media have circled the wagons around Senator Kerry. Despite the fact that Kerry has shamelessly tried to exploit his military service in Vietnam decades later, Tim Russert is the only major media commentator who has ever asked him why he will not open his military records, as President Bush has done.

Kerry has said that he would, that he has, and yet to this day he has never signed the simple form that Bush signed to make the facts available to all.

WHY NOT JOHN?

I’ve heard a lot of people saying that they are praying for a sweeping vote for change today, one that will turn our country around and put hope back in charge where fear has been ruling instead.

And that’s all well and good. However…

In the Reaganista years, the watchword motto of the international arms race was “Trust, but verify.” That watchword motto can be applied to today’s electoral processes as well. But so can a variation on the same theme: “Pray, but actify.”

Today is a day of reckoning in every town, every village, every hamlet all across this country. And having faith that the sun will coming shining out of the darkness again today is a beautiful thing, but it requires that we work hard if we’re to accomplish that goal.

James told his followers that “Faith without works is dead.” Augustine advised his compatriots to “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.”

So pray if you will, but work if you must. (And you must. Believe me, you must.) Send your thoughts to the skies, but put your boots on the ground.

Your work is cut out for you. Whether the sun comes out today or darkness still reigns at the heart of our country’s government at day’s end ultimately depends on you, and on what you do between now at the closing of the polls.

So get out there and do whatever needs to be done, wherever it is that you find yourself today. Call. Write. Canvass. Drive. Monitor. Motivate. But above all, VOTE. And make sure that everyone you know or meet or can kind find hiding underneath a stone votes, too.

It’s morning in America. Here comes the sun. Now go do that voodoo that you do so well!

and vote as if your life depends on it—because it does,

And here in the middle of Missouri we are swamped with fog.  If that ain’t a metaphor, I don’t know what is.  ;-)

There will be losses, there will be wins, but the fog will lift.  It is a beautiful day.

Kj, Here in DC, we woke up to a thick fog as well, but it’s burning off quickly. Good luck in Missouri today—we need that Senate seat!

Well, the voting booths were full when I got there to vote for Ned Lamont and Diane Farrell.  One of the poll-workers said that it had been really busy earlier.  The Secretary of State said that they were expecting a 65% turnout of registered voters.

Lots of Lamont bumper stickers in the parking lot.

Keep your fingers crossed!

I also voted!

I continue to write about Senator Kerry and had a letter published in SitNews today that I believe is worth reading (am I biased or what?).

Here is the link to my entry on my blog where I have reprinted the letter.

Let me know what you think!

I haven’t voted yet; however, I just finished placing 50 signs all over the place.

Listening to the talk shows, I’m hearing disappointing news about machines not working right in Ohio’s poorer districts again.

I hope turnout will make up for these shinanigans.

Senator Kerry,

Thank you for inspiring me to get involved.  And, yeah, it was you who got me to thinking that I should help out.  Like Fedup, I went to a precinct at 5 AM to make sure the Diebold Machines were not tampered with, and I feel quite confident that they were not.  (Trust but verify somebody said upthread).  Then at my own precinct, finding the Dem signs were stolen, I fetched my yard signs to make sure our side was represented against such ridiculous vandalism.  We’ll have to wait until the votes are counted, but I know that this time I did everything in my power to ensure victory.  I will say that I am very hopeful that Jim Webb will be joining you in the Senate in January!

Already voted, and lectured my cab driver and the guy I had a meeting with on the importance of voting… they’re both gonna vote.

Robocall phenom happening in Minnesota too. Both the Rowley and Wetterling campaigns sending email alerts to voters to ignore the call messages, but to report them right away.

Republicans know they can’t win on the merits, so they’ll just cheat.  Sounds like they screwed with the machines in Ohio already, too… let me guess… minority neighborhoods?

******** have to go… [edited for language]

James Boyce outdid himself this morning in reminding us why we should vote and in honoring a veteran who deserves all that honor and more.

Two years after my last post on this blog…

We in Europe have more than one eye on this election, folks. We keep our fingers crossed!

Go take the House!

Vokoban,
How sweet of you to come by and say hello. We all remember you and the overnight info you gave us in 2004!

Thank you for all that you have done to support us.

Not too much in the last 24 months to be honest. And even now I have to feed my son. I’ll check back this evening (it’s 6:15 p.m over here), wishing you all a great day!

Vokoban!

Well, I’ll be damned… good to see you here again. Thanks for the good wishes. Please tell everyone that we are working really hard to stop the insanity of the current leadership.

Have a toast to the Democrats!

I did my duty as a citizen, but I cannot tell a lie - I voted for the Green Party candidate instead of Hillary.  I felt that casting my ballot for such a snake would be, how should I put it, “inappropriate”.

Glad to hear from our old friend Vokoban again.
It has been a long time since 2004.
Maybe we will win a few today?
