Honoring our Heroes in Michigan

Road Report from Ted Chiodo:

10-18micopsmemorial4jksign.jpg 10-18-2006:  With 21 days left till America sends a blue tidal wave into DC, John Kerry spent the day in Michigan touring the state with Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm.  The day began around 9am in a sunny and crisp Detroit.  The land yacht was mighty full as we headed to Lansing, Michigan, home of the Michigan State Spartans, to speak at a dedication of the site for the Michigan Law Enforcement Memorial.

Gov. Granholm and John Kerry walked up the sloping grass to the future Memorial site where the Michigan Law Enforcement officers and the press had gathered. <!-more-> 10-18micopsmemorial9jkprayer.jpg The program began with a benediction and all bowed their heads to pray for all of Michigan’s finest who made the ultimate sacrifice.  After the prayer I was able to jostle my way to the front to capture a great video of the Senator’s remarks.  The speech is well worth a viewing.

JK used his time to remind Americans the great sacrifice made by Police officers who are this country’s first responders.  These brave men and women need to know that their government fully supports their difficult and harrowing job.  Creating Memorials after the fact is not enough if American and this administration does not fully fund their effort.

10-18micopsmemorial2jkspeaking.jpg No police officer should be injured or killed because their department wasn’t able to equip them with the latest protective vests or train them with the best techniques.  Their job is dangerous enough with out having to worry about having the money necessary to buy equipment, hire officers and train them.  It is an American value to fully support those who choose to protect and serve their communities at grave personal risk.

10-18micopsmemorial6jktroopers.jpgAfter the event JK went from group to group shaking hands and thanking officers for their tireless dedication to this country.

Look for my next report from Michigan, Mahalo!

Thanks for including the video footage of even these relatively minor events, y’all. While having transcripts to read is always worthwhile, there’s just no susbstitute for being able to see & hear a politician walk the walk and talk the talk. And while the big carefully-scripted, well-rehearsed national appearances can be impressive,  it’s the less formal local appearances that can provide a true sense of who a politician really is.

so up the good keep work,

Thank you Senator Kerry for your hard work and assistance over the past few years in the effort of helping to take back congress and protect America.

I agree with Otter that it’s those “less formal local appearances that can provide a true sense of who a politician really is”
And I like what I see in those photos and videos of Sen. Kerry on the road.  - Sen. Kerry chatting with vets, both those who agree and those who disagree with him on Iraq; with college students; with elderly ladies; and with children: a good man doing a great job of connecting to Americans, and of connecting Americans to each other, one conversation at a time.

I agree with the above 100%!
I REALLY appreciate all the reporting, the video’s etc.
One other thing that I might suggest would be to simply place an audio recorder on the podium, etc. at each of the Senator’s stops. MP3’s are easy to download, use, and for those of us with pro-Kerry websites, to support (easy on the bandwidth). They can be used by anyone, virtually anywhere without a PC.
I’ve recorded video at a few Kerry speeches lately and though it’s great it can be a real pain with the angles, the sound, lighting, etc. to get anything of decent quality. Audio in my humble opinion gets out 95% of the message, and it’s completely portable for those of us who would love to get the whole message each day but because of our schedules have to multitask ;-)
Once again, a fabulous job is being done as it is, just an idea…..

It’s great to see Sen. Kerry supporting Gov. Granholm, and both of them supporting our law enforcement officers.  Just wanted to remind all Michganians to get out the vote! We all know that every vote counts in these important races!
