Quick Note from the road in Massachusetts

Road Report from Ted Chiodo:

10-24madeval1jkpd.jpg10-24-2006: With 14 days remaining, JK met up with Deval Patrick, candidate for governor of Massachusetts, to speak at the famed Perkins School for the Blind (Helen Keller’s alma mater). John Kerry spoke at the historic Dwight Hall. JK and Deval spoke out about discrimination against people living with disabilities. <!-more-> 10-24madeval2jkscreen.jpg

After the speeches, JK and Deval Patrick spent time greeting the students and audience.

Enjoy the pictures and stay tuned for a road report later….

My name is Kevin Lyda and I’m an American living in Ireland. I’m not anonymous and if you’d like to confirm that my number is [edited].

You’re not only stepping up to Chris Bower’s “Use it or lose it” campaign, you’re insulting the thousands of Democratic activists who support it. We’ve all donated to your campaign. A lot of your campaign warchest is made up of money we gave you.

All anyone is asking is for you to donate just 30% of that warchest to the DSCC, the DCCC or the DNC to help out candidates in this cycle right now. I’m not a huge fan of the first two but they’re the organisations we have right now to help elect Dems to Congress. If you’re reticence in donating is due to the urgent need for reform in the DSCC and DCCC, then I can understand. But the time to reform them is not now.

Put your money in now and work to reform them in two weeks time. Right now we need you and all elected Dems to pull your weight. Thousands of Dems are walking neighbourhoods, cajoling fence-sitters, volunteering in polls, manning phone banks, licking envelopes, distributing flyers and digging deep in wallets worn thin by six years of fiscal mismanagement by this Administration.

It’s great that you’re supporting Dems running for office with your time - just as thousands of Dems are doing. But we’d like you to join us on the money front by putting 30% of your campaign warchest into these final weeks of the race.

Either way we’re going to remember your actions in these closing weeks. Happy memories would be preferable.

Kevin,

You obviously misunderstood what Chris Bowers’s action is about.  His call had nothing to do with the Senate in general or Senator Kerry in particular.  It was targetting House members.

As for insulting netroots, nobody is, except those who started an anonymous campaign calling themselves “netroots” (this obviously was not aiming at blogs, but at a certain website that has been since dismantled).  That obviously would not be Chris Bowers, who is not anonymous, neither would it be you.

You however may want to see what Senator Kerry has been doing during this campaign before you say he did nothing.  Some disinformation has been spread and it is perfectly understandable that you are not aware of what has been done.  So, if you are not still here, go to the home page, and see if there are many people who have done more than that.

BTW, I am one of these people who will not give to the DSCC or the DCCC but prefers to give directly to candidates of my choice.  What is wrong with that and what is wrong with Senator Kerry enabling people to do just that?

Happy to see that the Senator is campaign in Massachusetts.

Deval Patrick is a great candidate who will end 16 years of GOP presence in the corner office.  It is a great hope for MA.

To Kevin:

Here is a link to a blog explaining that the comment by Kerry’s spokesman was not to Chris Bower, but to an anonymous web site. Bower ‘s initiative, in fact, started the day after the comment on the web site was issued.

As to what Kerry has done, here is a link to his comments to some Massachsetts bloggers.
(link:  http://www.bluemassgroup.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=4758 )

Kerry has been spending money on electing people in 2006 since 2004 - and in aggregate has given a large proportion of the money he has left.

Kevin:

A lot of us feel that appeals like yours are an insult to all of us who have been working hard, contributing money to various Dem candidates and to John Kerry. It is insulting to imply that those of us who gave money to John Kerry did so under some delusion that this was meant for someone else. I gave my money to Kerry, then to Akaka, Menendez, Webb and other Democrats when asked.

This campaign against Sen. Kerry, and Kerry only as no other Dem Senators have been called out this way, is wrong. I would hope that you would reconsider this and reconsider the considerable amounts of money that Kerry has raised and will continue to raise for other good Dems.

At the very least, please stop insulting those of us who have given money to John Kerry by implying that we didn’t know what we were doing when we did so. It’s insulting, it’s wrong and it’s not a part of the alleged ‘reality-based world’ that Dems are supposed to live in.

hey Ted, did you follow Sen. Kerry to Medford after the event at Perkins?  I’m wondering if anyone got a picture of the Sen talking to a little boy who offered him a Deval flyer outside Medford City Hall. The kid is my son and i would so love a picture of that moment! thanks.

Jennifer,

Does your little boy have a blue coat and hat on? And is he carrying a bag? And JK is bending over to talk to him?

If the answer is yes, it will be included in Ted’s next quick post on the meeting with the mayors in Medford.

It was precious from a “mom” point of view!

Jennifer,

Check Ted’s post, Another Note from the Road in Massachusetts.  I think you’ll find the picture you’re looking for.  He sure is cute!

ahhh!  thanks!
i grabbed my camera too late, so i’m so glad to see it here.  Gabe takes his job of handing out flyers pretty seriously, but he’ll surely treasure this pic in the years ahead!
