The Joy of Sox, Part 4

“I’m speechless. I feel like I’m dreaming. It’s something we’ll be able to talk about to our kids forever,” said Jen Pollard, 39, of Georgetown.

Pollard and her husband, Phil Hyman, 42, planned the trip last minute for their 10th wedding anniversary. “I’m blown away,” Hyman said.

Like throngs of fans who made the long trip, Maine native John Merriman’s childhood dream came true. “It’s unbelievable. I’m dumbfounded,” Merriman, 36, said.

Jorge Munoz, 34, of Quincy was among those who traveled nearly 2,000 miles without a ticket. He scored one to last night’s game for $500 and said it was worth every penny. “This is awesome. It’s surreal to me right now,” Munoz said.

Deflated Rockies fans emptied Coors Field, with some of them even congratulating Sox fans, as the Denver ballpark turned into a celebration for Boston, with the wild crowd chanting for the Sox.

There’s a lot of joy in winning, and a lot of pain in losing. (Trust us, we know all about that here in Boston. It only took us 15 years to win our first five Series, but then another 86 years after that to win our sixth.)

The Colorado Rockies and their loyal mountain fans may be in a world of hurt right now. But they still have an awful lot to be proud of, too.

For a team that threw its first pitch just 14 years ago to make it to the Series after winning 21 out of 22 games is mighty darn impressive baseball action, folks.

And the Rockies are going to be around for a long time. This may have been the first time the Sox and Rox went head to head for a World Series title, but it’s safe to say that that it won’t be the last.

Colorado, you guys done good. We’re looking forward to doing this little dugout dance with you again real soon now.

But in the meanwhile, if you’ll excuse us, we have a Duck Boat Parade to catch…

Congrats to the Red Sox!!!!!

I have to admit as of ‘04 I wasn’t much of an American League fan, and being a native New Yorker you’d think I would be a Yankees fan (no way never ever) I was a Mets girl. But watching the Sox come from behind in ‘04 changed my view of certain American league team. I will still cheer on my Mets and my Padres( my team from being transplanted to San Diego in the 80’s, Tony Gwynn was a great role model for my boys)but when the Sox play I will always be that fan that by their talent and perserverance changed my view of the American league.

PS Knock the socks off the Yankees next year too. wink

Way to go Sox!! Make sure you resign Lowell. The guy is clutch!!

As for the National League, don’t they run their best players up against the PCL for the best Minor League All-Star Squad?
