Why JK Takes the Pan-Mass Challenge Personally

JK’s experiences dealing with cancer in his own family and in his own body are what makes the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge such a personal passion for him. That’s why he sent out an email to a few friends (well, 3 million of them, to be exact) again this year, asking them to sponsor his ride in order to raise money for the PMC and the Jimmy Fund. (It’s also one reason why he’s pushing so strongly for legislation that would provide affordable health care for all Americans by 2012.)

There’s still time for you to sign on as a co-sponsor of Senator Kerry’s Pan-Massachusetts bicycling initiative, too. All you need to do is visit JK’s PMC profile page on the organization’s website.

And if you need a little extra incentive for you to support JK in his efforts to combat cancer, spend a few minutes watching the video or listening to the podcast audio of his powerful, passionate presentation at last fall’s Lance Armstrong Foundation Livestrong Summit Conference that are posted in the multimedia section of this website.

(And while you’re thinking about JK’s friend Lance and the Livestrong Foundation, be sure to check out their website also. Not only will you learn a lot about cancer and the efforts being made to combat it, you can pick up some of those nifty yellow Livestrong bracelets to match the one that JK’s seen wearing in the video and in so many of his other photos, too.)

Three million?  That’s a lot of friends.  I didn’t get the email; so thank you, Rick, for posting it on the web site.  Billy Starr sounds like a real trooper.  I haven’t donated yet, but as soon as my next check hits the bank, I’m in.

Outstanding post! I hope Senator Kerry receives a lot of response to his email request for support.  There is still so much we do not understand about cancer and the treatments for this awful desease.I watched the video for the second time and emailed it to some family members and I have to tell you it is a very personal speech, but one that reaches out to comfort others who have gone through similar experiences with cancer. I just recently received my yellow bracelet from the Livingstrong Foundation and wear it every day in honor of my father and uncle who both lost their battles with cancer recently. I would reccommend that everyone go to the Livingstrong web site and check out the stories of hope and healing.
And, for Senator Kerry a huge thank you for all your efforts and good luck in the race this weekend.

It seems that once again that this democratic Congress has bowed down to Bush’s will in passing the spy bill which gives Bush expansive spying authority. I guess Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid just don’t have what it takes to stand up to this president or his policies. It makes me wonder why we elected a democratic Congress in the first place. I thought they were going to hold the Bush administration accountable. Clearly that has not happened.

Senator Kerry,

The Democratic congressional failure to protect the constituiton regarding the recent abject capitulation to the President’s FISA demands requires a change in priorities for party leaders like yourself.

It is time that the Democratic party take up the Constitutional Crisis, and the continual, orchestrated and purposeful erosion of the very constitutional order by the Administration as a serious and direct issue.

Polling might now show it is on voters minds, but leaders would put it there.

Again and again, the Democrats unfortunately fail to play offence on this issue.  The president captures a yard here and there, once in awhile he gets blocked, but overall, the Dems are standing on their own 5 yard line, and there is no Quarterback to lead them back to the endzone.

Please be a respected party elder and take on that issue.  Without it, health care, the environment, the econmony and even Iraq are all unwinnable.  If Congress and the American people have no rights over the Executive, nothing else matters much does it?

I think it will resonate with the people.  Particularly since this president is so unpopular, it is not hard to make a case against entrusting him with ever more powers.  Once a new president takes office, it will be more difficult to roll back these powers, since this person will be popular and seen as trustworthy.  Bush and Cheney themselves are the case-in-point the public needs to understand why unlimited executive powers are dangerous and harmful.

Can someone tell me how Sen. Kerry voted on the spying bill?

He didn’t vote, as vote came while he was already en route to this bike race. While I"m sure that he would have voted no, hopefully Senator Kerry or one of his staff could explain the circumstances a little? (My guess is that if the bil had any chance of being defeated, that he would have been there to cast his vote, but that’s just my guess).

Here’s the tally
