BOSTON - NARAL Pro-Choice America has announced that it is endorsing John Kerry for re-election to the United States Senate.

"I am honored to have the endorsement of NARAL, one of the nation's leading advocates for women's rights. Throughout my 24 years in the U.S. Senate - especially when the rubber hit the road and Ted Kennedy and I were under fire during our filibuster of Justice Samuel Alito -- I have always been proud to have the support of NARAL," said Kerry. "I'm proud of the fights we've fought together, and I am looking forward to a time when the rights of women are no longer under assault this country. Come November, we'll have a bigger, stronger Democratic majority in Congress and a Democratic president, and together we can all continue to work and fight for progress that's long overdue."

His leadership is critical in such a closely divided Senate where choice-related votes are often won or lost by one vote," said Nancy Keenan, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. We faced long odds at the time, when the Senate was still under anti-choice control, but Sen. Kerry reinforced the threat Alito posed to our constitutional right to privacy. Even with President Obama in the White House, we will need Sen. Kerry to help shepherd good nominees through the Senate."

Kerry has been a strong advocate for a woman's right to choose throughout his career in public office. He has been a leader on this issue in the Senate, and has worked to united Americans on both sides of the debate. Kerry has consistently received a 100% rating from NARAL for his work on behalf of reproductive rights.
