Few fights are more personal to us in the johnkerry.com community than the fight to protect our environment.

From the unprecendent activism of this community in support of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to the breakthrough agreement on raising CAFE standards John Kerry pushed in the Senate, so many members of this community have expended so much effort in trying to safeguard our natural heritage

In December 2005, the Republican leadership attached to a defense bill a proposal to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. They thought they could play politics with our troops – and intimidate Democrats into taking a walk on this big energy fight.

They underestimated you!

The johnkerry.com community mobilized immediately to fight this political maneuver. Over 48 hours, you called your Senators and together we succeeded in preventing the bill from moving forward until the proposal was removed.

Then again, in 2007, members of the johnkerry.com community worked hard to support passage of an energy bill that contained the first real steps this country has taken to combat the climate crisis in years.

It is time for real energy solutions rather than shameless political power plays. Through your amazing efforts, we have repeatedly sent a powerful message to the oil lobby and its enablers in Congress that their tactics will not be tolerated by the American people.
